Our volunteer programme went into lockdown in March and came out of it in July! During the interval, our dedicated team in Tenerife worked on developing a Virtual Volunteering programme, drawing on the support of our extensive volunteer and faculty networks.
The aim of Virtual Volunteering is to give individuals opportunity to stay involved in ‘making a difference’ when they are unable to leave their homes.
Examples of the great work they produced can be seen below:

Going forward we are adapting this programme to work with students looking to undertake work experience in this uncertain period of the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be either stand alone, with no travel involved or can be combined with physical work experience now with our programme in Tenerife (and, later on, with our programmes in Sri Lanka, Vietnam and more). We have developed a robust online mentor framework to provide the support students may require.
We have developed our volunteer programmes to be COVID-19 secure subject to students being socially responsible and have developed processes to ensure that socially irresponsible students do not get accepted.
Work experience and volunteering can be facilitated through our programmes in a variety of areas and we have dedicated staff in each area to act as mentors:
You can get involved as individuals, groups or even societies. We currently have Bangor Zoosoc doing some Virtual Volunteering with us before they come out to Tenerife themselves! For further information email Ryan at [email protected] today.
