coronavirus: tell your storyDuring this time of lockdown and social distancing measures, we are coming to terms with a new ‘normal’. Within every household around the world there is a different narrative, that unfolds behind closed doors. There is panic, fear, love, anxiety, depression, laughter and creativity, and this can just be one family, on one day!
We want teach and encourage young people to start telling us their stories, the stories that do not appear on the news. We want to train a network of storytellers, journalists and filmmakers, to tell their stories and express their views, through the power of video and film. Importantly, we want young people to emerge from this devastating period in our history, with new skills and a new passion; a new foundation from which they can pursue in further education and even build careers on. Representation has a huge role to play in storytelling and journalism and we want to make sure the Fair Earth Foundation continues to reflect the audience and speak to communities in some of the toughest, neglected and under reported parts of the UK and the world. We want to provide a safe place for you to voice your opinions and fears, and also provide a voice for the people where you live. By seeing others and their experiences, those that are alone or struggling with the current crisis will have stories that they can relate to, which will help them through their personal struggles. The best films and videos will be shown at the 2021 London Eco Film Festival, and will provide the filmmakers with great exposure, which may lead to bigger things in the future. Please get in touch if you want to start learning a key skill and start submitting your work, and we will let you know what the next steps will be! film as a storytelling toolFilm has become the predominant form of communication in the modern world.
The Fair Earth Foundation uses film as a tool for individuals and communities to raise awareness of the issues important to them, the stories that would not otherwise be told, so that we can all understand what it is that is important to people. We want to give a voice to those that need to be heard, and facilitate an understanding that inspires action. We want to facilitate this process through training in technique and the use of equipment, provision of resources and funding where needed and by providing a platform on which the films can be shown. "Ordinary Lives" and "Intelligent Conversations" provide platforms for individuals and communities to express the issues of most concern to them to a global audience, and raise awareness of their perspective; it is naive to come to any decision that doesn't embrace all perspectives. Both of these series of films are at the very heart of what we are trying to do. The London Eco Film Festival is a key action of the Fair Earth Foundation, a platform to engage and inspire. It is designed to inform us and our partners to better formulate goals and strategies that are intelligent, current and necessary. In November 2019, in collaboration with Rich Mix and The Mighty Roar, we put together an International Eco Film Festival which saw us receive over 3,000 films from more than 120 countries. The 2021 London Eco Film Festival is now open for film and photography submissions. We want to share the films that we have created as well as the finalists and winners from the London Eco Film Festival. We want you to explore global issues from your and/or your communities' perspectives. If you have a film in mind that you feel is important to you and your local community and you do not have the capacity to make it, please let us know and we can discuss ways of helping you. As part of our capacity building of budding filmmakers, we offer a film course, we would love to hear from you if you'd like to learn! Email James at [email protected] to find out more. We are building an online, free to watch, catalogue of films that are both inspirational and to be used as an educational resource. If you know of a film that you think we should be showcasing, please let us know. We are proud of our films, please enjoy! * Disclaimer: we are totally aware of the dangers of fake material and are developing criteria to offer some form of validation to any films shown on our site, so people can trust what they are watching to be authentic.
