There is much abuse of animals in Tenerife and numerous animal rescue centres exist as a consequence: Dogs, Cats, Horses, Donkeys, Goats...Many of these Rescue centres are great, although some are not so good, BUT one in particular is exceptional, an example of best practice both in terms of the animal care it delivers and the volunteer experience it provides- The Tenerife Horse Rescue Centre.
The Fair Earth Foundation will support the Horse Rescue Centre in Tenerife throughout 2023 and in the process provide ‘Day’ volunteers* and work on a ‘best practice’ case study that can be used around the world. In addition to volunteering at the Centre the Foundation will be organising fund raising activities including sponsored walks (Teide Challenge) to raise funds for a proposed Donkey enclosure (€4000) which the Foundation will underwrite. The Foundation will also pay the Centre €10 for each volunteer-day provided and this will come directly out of volunteer contributions. The Foundation target for 2023 will be to provide €30,000 in support of The Tenerife Horse Centre and its work. * The Tenerife Horse Rescue Centre has its own full time- no cost- volunteer programme and a small scale internship programme which can be applied for separately- see their website www.tenerifehorserescue.com ABOUT The Tenerife Horse Centre: The Centre strives to provide and promote the care and protection of all animals by offering a place of safety to those in need. We offer them a home for the remainder of their lives, however long or short that may be. We retrain some horses with natural, kind and positive reinforcement methods. We believe that every horse, pony, donkey and other animal has the right to a happy and healthy life, free from fear and neglect. We rescue abandoned, mistreated and neglected animals from across the Canary Islands, adopting them into our family and giving them a safe place to live as well as essential veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and lifelong care. The Centre has 500 (and growing) animals ranging from small animals- rabbits etc, through to goats, dogs, cats, donkeys and horses. It has a long term volunteer programme where there is no cost and basic accommodation provided and our ‘Day’ volunteers provide the help they need to work affectively whilst providing opportunity for young people to ‘do their bit’ alongside other activities.
