Course Title: Nature Guiding

Introduction to Course

Tourism is the biggest industry in the world, and the most exciting! Eco-Tourism, showing respect for Culture, Nature and the Environment is the fastest growing section of this expanding industry.

Nature guides can find work anywhere around the world and throughout all four seasons - becoming an ‘International Nomad’ for a few years while you are young is very cool.
 
Who should take this course?

• Students, young professionals, older wildlife and nature lovers, people looking for a career change
  
  

Course Objectives
 
The course will cover:

1. 16 excursions, four in each of the four focus areas, combined with expert led reflection workshops to learn and improve from the experience.
2. Communication Skills- How to get your customers attention, and keep it! You will also learn how to give your customer confidence in your ability as a guide, how to inspire your entire tour and the importance of language.
3. The Customer Experience- it’s all about the customer- What works for them and, as importantly, what doesn’t work for them. How to understand and work with different ‘customer’ types.
4. The Knowledge. Guiding is knowledge driven and this knowledge has to be well organised. The course will be focused on Tenerife- History, Nature, Culture, Folklore and lots of gossip. The process of organising knowledge can be applied to any setting/background.
5. An overview of guiding work around the world, using case studies as examples, and how to best apply them. This will include a wide range of great contacts for you to use in your future career. You will also cover what potential employers are looking for, or how to kickstart your own career and be your own boss.
6. How to be a Global Ambassador. As a nature guide you have a unique and powerful position to influence a large range of people around the world. We believe in encouraging people to be Global Citizens and to live ethically; it's a huge part of our overall mission as a foundation. Therefore it is integral to all of the courses that we run. Through workshops and seminars we will cover a broad range of topics around the theme of global citizenship with the overall message that we can’t do everything, but we can all do something, and if we all do something everything gets done.
7. The course will be delivered in Tenerife. There will be additional two week ‘masterclasses’ where modules will be available in both Tenerife and Sri Lanka (coming soon).
   
   These modules include:

• Whale Watching
• Star Gazing
• Trekking
• Birds & Flora
• Jungles (Sri Lanka only),
• Elephants & Big Cats (Sri Lanka only).

• Duration: This four week course is designed to make you employable. It combines theory, knowledge and expert mentoring along with real experience
  
  There will be four themes:
  
  
• Whale & Dolphin watching
  
• Trekking (Flora/Birds)
  
• Stargazing
  
• Gastronomy
  
  

In each area there will be four practical sessions, leading groups of ‘tourists’ on excursions with workshop sessions following each excursion to learn from the experience.
 
At the end of the course you will be confident of yourself, experienced, and highly employable or, if preferred, better equipped to start yourself up in your own business.

Note: When you reserve your place the total amount of your booking will be shown but today you will only have to pay the £50/€50 deposit. The deposit is fully refundable in the event that you can not participate because of COVID-19.

Requirements

There are no prerequisites or prior qualifications needed to complete this course. We only want to work with enthusiastic individuals and people with great positive attitudes. We work with small groups so that we can work at different levels of ability, with tailored learning and mentorship to suit all abilities and previous experience.
