Reconnecting Youth with Nature through Art - Creating Global Citizens
This is a Fair Earth Foundation programme for change endorsed and funded by the The National Lottery Community Fund.
We have been running educational workshops in schools and colleges for many years, often through our extensive volunteer networks. The aim of these workshops has always been about raising awareness of key conservation issues such as plastic pollution, climate change or extinction events and to inspire action!
One of our sister organisations, True Fair Trading CIC, acquired Lottery funding for a pilot programme in Autumn 2020 as part of the nation’s charities response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal was to successfully deliver the programme and, now, roll it our nationally in 2021.

What the programme aims to deliver
1. Awareness of the power of art and the critical value of the individual in the creative process.
Groups (school groups, scout groups, community groups, etc.) will be given:
Please check out our FREE catalogue of resources here.
This programme can be delivered by teachers in schools, or by a group leader in the community, or by one of our volunteers/alumni who will lead your group free of charge.
The children can keep some of their pots but the idea is to sell the pots to raise funds for the Fair Traders and for local community projects of their choice. We will help with the selling and all monies raised will be going back to the people who painted the pots. The very best we will take to RHS Chelsea Flower Show in the Spring!
2. Workshops on global issues affecting us all.
These include key global issues such as, climate change, plastic pollution, poverty, discrimination, global citizenship, fair trade and more! We want to inspire people to learn, and we believe that the best way to learn is through critical thinking on these issues.
3. Workshops linking global issues to their lives and to their communities.
There will be special prizes given out for the most revealing, powerful and inspiring work produced from these workshops! These could be factsheets, poems, artwork, etc. We will also highlight the works on our pages.
4. Tree Propagation
Trees are amazing and vitally important. Children will learn how to plant and look after trees from seed and we will pay them for every seed (conker, acorn, etc.) they bring to the workshop to be propagated. We can show people how to propagate the seeds or we can take them away to our tree nursery where we will keep them under the donors name. In the Spring we will have a second sale of pots with saplings, where the funds will accumulate into their Global Citizenship Account!
5. Career Goals
Throughout the programme we will be covering a huge range of possible career options - art, design, sales, marketing, horticulture, conservation, photography, film making, event management, education, volunteer management and more. We will make available local educational paths should people decide to pursue a particular interest giving people options for their futures.
6. Global Citizenship Certification
This will detail their individual contribution to making the world a better place!
Groups (school groups, scout groups, community groups, etc.) will be given:
- Factsheets and Lesson Plans
- A FREE unlimited supply of beautiful, hand made and fair trade terracotta pots made by our artisan potters in Sri Lanka: read their story
- A FREE extensive portfolio of ideas for painting the pots
- FREE painting materials
- Inspiration to paint the pots in their own unique style.

how will it work?
Key Points:
1. Register your interest at [email protected] 2. Pick 'n' mix cross-curricular workshop options are listed below. Compulsory minimum of 1 workshop before the pot painting. 3. There are no hard deadlines. 4. We will deliver all pots and paints as required for FREE. We just need a delivery time and address. 5. Participants can keep half their pots as souvenirs or gifts but we would like at least half to be sold to raise funds for local community projects of their choice - creating their Global Citizenship Accounts. These funds will be donated by the children painting the pots. We are more than happy to help sell the pots! 6. Tree propagation workshop is optional 7. We will help create the Global Citizenship Accounts for each participant group into which these funds will be deposited for them to allocate as they decide. They can add their own community projects to the online database so others can contribute funding to their chosen project(s). 8. We will sell a selection of your pots/saplings at the RHS Flower Shows 9. Keep fundraising! |
