plant a tree - fund a dream
Planting trees helps to reduce CO2 emissions in our atmosphere and also helps restore our threatened environments and what's more, trees are beautiful.
We have been running our Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream scheme for a number of years now. With a £50 contribution, for example, we can plant 50 trees, each of which will absorb 1 tonne of Carbon Dioxide over the following 40 years. Additionally through this programme, we match fund the offsetting voucher with funding for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive education in their country. For example in Vietnam £50 will buy a years high school education for a child for a year. Education is still the main route out of poverty for most of the world. You can choose to support the Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream scheme and fight Climate Change through our Global Citizenship Voucher Scheme. tree twinningThe Fair Earth Foundation’s 'Tree Twinning' is our initiative for extending the benefits of tree planting to developing countries. People must live - and their lives will always create an environmental impact. The challenge for us all is how to reduce that impact while helping developing countries to develop financially, improving the standards of living and education.
The environment is a global issue and must be addressed globally. Developing countries have the need and desire to conserve and plant trees but lack the financial resources to do so. We have tree planting programmes in the UK, Sri Lanka and Vietnam with plans to develop the programme in West Africa, the Caribbean and South America. Programme funding covers local communities maintaining and nurturing the planted trees. Tree Twinning will directly protect biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and build climate resilience in communities through the adoption of sustainable climate-smart agricultural techniques and diversified livelihoods.
For example, we will reforest degraded areas for sustainable coppicing. This has extra benefits of increasing CO2 uptake and reducing pressure on primary forest by giving rural communities sustainable alternatives to felling trees for slash and burn agriculture. We will also reforest rainforests, aiming to join fragments of primary forest and extend the habitat of endangered species. In addition, something as simple as buying a fruit tree for £5 will invest in future generations. For example, it will provide nutrition to a young child, which may keep them at school, giving them an education, raising the aspirations of the family and supporting the child, a potential decision maker of the future. Through 'Tree Twinning' your school or organisation can be matched with a school in a developing country. By choosing to plant trees in your local area, you will become Tree Planting Champions, and provide biodiversity and social benefits to your local area. Your other 'twins' are planted by one of our partners, and we will pay them to grow and protect the trees, giving some of the poorest communities in the world the resources they need to fight poverty and become self-reliant. Tree Twinning demonstrates your school or company’s commitment toward meeting the environmental and humanitarian challenges of our times – at home and abroad. Linking with the Fair Earth Foundation provides unique and authentic evidence of your schools or company’s commitment to be Global Citizens. Under the 'Tree Twinning' partnership your school or company will receive regular reports about the people who are benefitting from the trees, giving you powerful stories to share with your pupils, clients and staff. Please get in touch, and let's start your twinning journey today! We have beautiful informative awareness posters on carbon footprints, please ask us and we will send them to you, free of charge to display at your school, house or workplace.
