whale and dolphin watching
We have been running the volunteer programme on the whale watching boats for some 30 years, with the Atlantic Whale and Dolphin Foundation (a UK Registered Charity). We know which of the boats should be used, and those that should not! The boat we would recommend to your group, will be determined by the size of the party and the experience they are looking for.
We can provide talks, or information, before they go on the boat about what they will see; we can tell them how they can help us with our research on the boats through our Citizen Science programmes; and we can give debriefing sessions about what they saw whilst at sea.
You can see the boats we use by following this link to our ecotourism website, the Whales and Dolphins of Tenerife.
We can negotiate special rates with the boat owners for the groups.

bird watching
There are numerous species of bird on Tenerife that "twitchers" want to tick off their list - Laurel Pigeon and the Blue Chaffinch amongst others. There are also rare birds such as Osprey nesting in the mountains, the Corey's Shearwater (nesting in the deep ravines at night to hide from seagulls and make the most amazing noises) and the Hoopoe.
We can advise the areas in which they have been spotted, and put you in touch with bird watching guides who can lead your group.

expert guides
We can connect you with expert guides from across the island, each of which has an in-depth knowledge of their subject area - flora, birds, culture, etc. On the whale watching boats our AWdF volunteers will accompany your group on the boats.
citizen science
If your group wants to get involved in supporting our research work, we can instruct them in the use of our methodologies to collect data and images - birds, whales, dolphins, flora and other sea life.
talks
We can organise expert talks on any subject of interest from people who have an in depth knowledge of the island; popular talks are on environmental impacts of tourism; whales and dolphins of Tenerife, history and culture of Tenerife, filmmaking and photography, gastronomy, stargazing and many more.
flora
Tenerife has 600 indigenous species with some plants that only grow in small sections of certain ravines. The island is a riot of colour throughout the year. The Botanical Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz were a staging post for plants being brought back from the great Victorian plant collectors, before being sent back to Exeter and then to the rest of Europe. There are nine distinct climatic zones on the island, from temperate, dry, pine forest to luscious, wet, laurel forest, each with their own unique flora. Also there are many special private gardens that can be viewed.
We can advise on where these species are and integrate it into your itinerary or we can connect you with specialist guides to accompany you.
