The Fair Earth Foundation, (Charity Number 1172989) is a charity regulated by The UK Charities Commission. It was created to act as an umbrella organisation to oversee the activities of The Atlantic Whale and Dolphin Foundation (AWdF) and to facilitate projects that had been developed by and through the AWdF's volunteers but which had strayed outside of its charitable remit of cetacean conservation throughout the Atlantic Ocean. The Fair Earth Foundation therefore has a global remit.
Fair Earth Foundation operates in the UK, across Europe and globally principally in Asia and Africa but with plans to work in South America.
It has two core beliefs underpinning its operating methods:
- That people are best served by being supported to stand on their own feet and to attend to their own needs be they at an individual, community or environmental level.
- That the responsibility to offer this support is in each of us, as individuals. Opportunity should be given to individuals and communities to provide support at a grassroots level – horizontally- direct to those in need.
The Foundation has three main income drivers:
True Fair Trading CIC, a UK Not for Profit that facilitates production of artisan products to create wealth in disadvantaged communities and sells them in the UK and elsewhere principally on-line and through garden shows such as Chelsea Flower Show. It developed a ‘Fair Trade’ garden at Hampton Court Flower Show in 2015. Surpluses created are reinvested by and through the communities from which the products originated usually into education initiatives but also other social and environmental purpose.
The second income driver is True Fair Eco-Tourism CIC, another UK Not for Profit. True Fair Ecotourism facilitates the development of eco-tourism initiatives designed to create wealth in disadvantaged communities possessing great natural and cultural assets but with no means of exploiting them. The company markets the tourism opportunities developed through its website www.truefairecotourism.com and, again, surpluses are invested by and through the communities involved with the help and support of the ‘Foundation.
The Earth Angel programme is the third income driver and potentially the most important. Through this program Earth Angels, namely individuals, communities, businesses are linked to grassroot organisations in need around the world and facilitated to provide direct support in:
- teaching resources
- micro-financing for business ideas
- community and environmental projects etc.
Collaborations rather than charity, with mutual benefits to all involved.
Above all, the Fair Earth Foundation is about facilitating individuals in contributing to making the world a better place, the world we all want to see.
